I was dazzled by the acting. Why his lawyer in the end tells him “i had dinner with Paul Allen in London 10 days ago”?
Yeah, parts of American Psycho are satirical, but not the violent parts – they are flat, vacant, bland. People who aren’t squeamish, fans of the Eighties. I did think it was a good book but I hated all the animal cruelty. I wavered between admiration, amusement and repulsion throughout many of the earlier chapters, but Psicooata really loved the ending; the build-up and the subtle changes and the conclusion itself, all so brilliantly done.
Chances are, you aren’t even close to thinking about what Pat put his victims through. He’s incredibly mocking and satirical, but ultimately he makes a serious statement.
I was disgusted all the way through reading I dont know how to rate this book. View all 26 comments. It makes the us wonder if they were just the pssicopata and hallucinations of a psychotic person. The murders and the sex scenes are not the only thing described in pornographic detail.

But, to my mind, Ellis makes it work. And I always remember a conversation I had with this guy way back in high school.
I totally get it the purposely boring rythm of the book is intended psicopatx mimick the shallowness on the lives of this group of characters and that the “psychopatic” behaviour of Bateman is a critique to the greediness and total lack of respect to the society of those Wall Street morons, but the way he builds his novel and writes about it is very amateurish, almost as if written by an angry teenager for a school paper, complaining about everything wrong in the world without any structure.
What the hell is so impressive about that??
Each chapter almost always started with Patrick Bateman describing what another person wore from head to foot; Giorgio Armani here, Ralph Lauren there, yada yada insert banal conversations here and how much he loved fucking women; occasional mention of Les Miz there.
